City Contributes to Haiti Relief Efforts on Behalf of Citizens...Addition Support Urged

Wilmington Mayor James Baker and City Council President Norman Griffiths today expressed their heartfelt concerns about the devastation in Haiti, the enormous loss of life, the lack of basic medical supplies for survivors and the lack of food, housing and basic necessities for much of the population.

At this point, the U.S. Government and most relief agencies agree that money is needed to assist with all of the efforts underway (rescue, medical care, food, housing, etc.) to help the people of Haiti cope with this disaster.

The Mayor and Council President will donate $10,000 from City government ($5,000 each from the budgets of the City Administration and City Council) that will go directly to relief organizations in Haiti that are supporting basic needs. The money is being donated on behalf of City Employees, including all Members of City Council and the citizens of Wilmington.

Mayor Baker and Council President Griffiths urge all citizens of our City to consider donating additional money if they are able to do so. There are a variety of legitimate organizations  that are collecting money for immediate use to support Haiti relief efforts.

Listed below is information about these organizations should you be able to offer a donation.

    Thank you!
